Prof Tony Travers is director of London School of Economics, and a professor in the LSE’s Government Department. In 2012-13, he chaired the London Finance Commission and is currently a member of the City Growth Commission. He is author of The Politics of London: Governing the Ungovernable City.
As part of the Society’s programme debating the future shape of the city, Prof. Travers will be setting out the capital’s current economic status, the impact it has on physical planning and the need for greater independence in the way change in London is funded. The Annual Banister Fletcher Lecture, in honour of the author of A History of Architecture by the Comparative Method who was an early member of the Society, will raise key issues relating to the governance and design of London and help to set the agenda for the London of the future.
