EVENT - Day Tour
The London Society has maintained its interest in ‘new and seemly’ building in London’s Suburbs with the publication of ‘A New Suburban Vernacular’ in the revitalised Journal, and the recently published work of Committee members on the ‘Supurbia’ project. To complement this, the Society is organising a bus tour, starting at the Olympic Park where the Legacy authority are developing large areas of new housing, then moving on to Barking Reach to see the award winning suburban developments designed by Sheppard Robson, across the Thames to Thamesmead to hear about the challenge faced by Peabody redeveloping 60s Thamesmead, on to Kidbrooke to see the re-development by Berkeley Homes.
Finally the tour will visit the inter-war suburbs of Bexley where tour leader Ben Derbyshire will explain the principles behind the Supurbia project, aimed at the intensification of Metroland.
